👨‍🚒 District Chief Frank Reiss

🚒 Serving Since 2004 | Appointed Chief in 2025

From Chews Landing to the Chief’s Office

Frank Reiss grew up right here in Gloucester Township—specifically the Chews Landing section (truth be told, Frank might have ended up with Chews Landing Fire Department, if not for a wrong turn on Somerdale Road landing him in Blackwood instead. Fortunately for us, he stayed). A product of the township’s youth sports programs, Frank played football, hockey, and baseball before graduating from Triton Regional High School in 2000. He was a member of the National Honor Society and earned a varsity letter in baseball.

After high school, Frank enrolled at Drexel University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering (though his mom insists his real major was hockey). It was during a co-op placement in his sophomore year that he discovered the fire service—and everything changed. That same year, a fire in his dad’s truck on Christmas Eve 2001 brought the Chews Landing Fire Department to his driveway, and by February 2002, he had joined them as a volunteer.

Frank began his career with Fire District #4 in July 2004. Over the next two decades, he rose through the ranks, serving as Fire Official (2011–2013), Captain of the daytime shift during the district’s first minimum staffing model (2017), and Captain of Engine 88 B-Platoon when the district launched 24-hour coverage in 2018. In 2025, he was promoted to Fire Chief.

In addition to his work in Blackwood, Frank has served as a part-time EMT with Bellmawr EMS and currently teaches as a certified Instructor II at Burlington County Emergency Services Training Center.

Chief Reiss leads Fire District #4 with a focus on safety, accountability, and service to the Blackwood community.
