Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a permit for a backyard fire pit or chiminea?
A: Most recreational fire pits and chimineas are allowed if they are used safely, are at least 15 feet from any structure, and burn clean wood only. Open burning of yard waste or trash is prohibited. For questions, contact our Fire Official.

Q: What kind of smoke alarms do I need for a CO inspection?
A: All homes must have working smoke alarms on each level, including the basement. Depending on the home's age and layout, detectors may need to be hardwired. CO detectors are also required outside sleeping areas. Check your CO inspection form for exact requirements.

Q: How do I schedule a CO (Certificate of Occupancy) inspection?
A: Email fm84@gtfd4.org or call (856) 227-7037. Please include your address, preferred dates, and a contact phone number. Be sure the home is ready and compliant prior to inspection.

Q: Can I request a fire truck visit for a school or community event?
A: Yes! We love connecting with the community. Email your request to fm84@gtfd4.org at least 2 weeks in advance and include the event date, time, location, and contact person.

Q: What happens if I fail a fire inspection?
A:
Don’t panic. You’ll receive a written report outlining the violations that need to be corrected. Once the issues are resolved, you can schedule a re-inspection. We’re happy to answer questions and help you get into compliance.

Q: Do you install smoke detectors for residents?
A: We do offer limited smoke detector installations for seniors, residents with disabilities, and those in need. Availability may vary. Contact us at fm84@gtfd4.org to ask about eligibility and schedule a visit.
